Phillies Announce Unfortunate News Before Yankees Game

Prior to Friday's game against the Yankees, the Phillies placed Marchán on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to July 23, with left knee patellar tendinitis. To take his place on the active roster, Philadelphia selected catcher Payton Henry's contract from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

To fill his spot on the 26-man roster, catcher Payton Henry had his contract selected from triple-A Lehigh Valley. To make room on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Brad Keller was transferred to the 60-day injured list. Henry will wear No. 35,” the Phillies announced on X.

Marchán has spent the majority of the season serving as J.T. Realmuto's primary backup. In his 32 games behind the plate, Marchán has struggled offensively, slashing just .102/.141/.170 with two home runs and six RBIs, and just two walks to fourteen strikeouts.

With Marchán sidelined, Henry will now have the opportunity to provide depth behind Realmuto. The 29-year-old has played seven games for Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season, where he has posted a .074 batting average with a .148 OPS.

Although Realmuto is expected to continue handling the bulk of the workload, Henry will likely be called upon whenever the veteran catcher receives a scheduled day off as Philadelphia looks to keep its roster healthy during the second half of the season.
