The Philadelphia Phillies lost left-hander Ranger Suarez to the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday as the MLB offseason continues, shifting their focus instead toward bolstering the lineup with infielder Bo Bichette.
At first glance, losing a premier starting pitcher appears to leave a significant hole in the rotation, but the Phillies are confident in their internal options thanks to the elite season Cristopher Sanchez delivered in 2025.
Sanchez emerged as the staff ace after Zack Wheeler underwent season-ending surgery and Aaron Nola battled through an injury-plagued campaign.
In his fifth year with the organization, Sanchez stabilized the rotation and elevated his game to new heights, finishing second in National League Cy Young Award voting.
Though he narrowly missed being named the league’s top pitcher, his performance reassured the Phillies that they can withstand the departure of Suarez while continuing to pursue upgrades elsewhere.
While his performance on the mound captured headlines last year, the offseason has been just as eventful for Sanchez.
On Wednesday, he and his partner, Kaimary Perez, shared a heartfelt announcement on social media, revealing the official date of their wedding.
The post featured a celebratory caption that read, “Save Our Special Date The countdown has begun… We are so excited to announce that on November 20, 2026, we will say ‘I do’ and begin the journey that will unite our lives forever.”
The couple’s journey has been years in the making, with Sanchez proposing back in December 2024. Now, as they prepare to tie the knot later this year, the milestone adds another layer of meaning to what has already been a memorable stretch in his life.
As his personal story continues to evolve, Sanchez’s incredible 2025 season firmly established him as one of the best pitchers in MLB.
Across 32 starts, the 29-year-old southpaw owned a 13–5 record, 2.50 ERA and 212 strikeouts. He continued his dominance during his two postseason appearances for Philadelphia, allowing just three runs across 12 innings and collecting 13 strikeouts.
Unfortunately, it was not enough as the Phillies were eliminated by the Los Angeles Dodgers over four games in the divisional round of the playoffs.
With his wedding ahead and ace role secured, Sanchez enters 2026 looking to push the Phillies deeper into October and solidify his place among the game’s elite.
