Phillies Make Trea Turner Decision After Kyle Schwarber News

Trea Turner is swapping shortstop for designated hitter in the Philadelphia Phillies' lineup Wednesday, with Kyle Schwarber sitting out for a second straight game because of a stomach illness.

Turner has been one of the Phillies' hottest hitters in the last 10 games, hitting four home runs to lead the club in that stretch. Edmundo Sosa will start at shortstop in Turner's place, marking his fourth start in his last five games as Philadelphia continues piecing together a lineup without Schwarber's absence.

The 33-year-old Turner is carrying a .241 batting average with 14 home runs, 41 RBIs and 17 stolen bases over 105 games this season for Philadelphia. Besides the four homers hit in the past 10 games, Turner has brought in eight RBIs and scored 10 runs, while owning a .964 OPS during the stretch.

Schwarber, the National League home run leader with 33 homers, has now missed back-to-back games in Miami, the same illness that took him out for three games in May.

The Phillies are in the finale of a three-game series against the Marlins at loanDepot Park, with first pitch set for 12:10 p.m. EST. Philadelphia trails the Atlanta Braves by six games in the NL East.

Schwarber, 33, is batting .252 with 33 home runs, 62 RBIs and a .911 OPS in 103 games, leading the majors in both home runs and strikeouts.

After Wednesday's game in Miami, the Phillies are off Thursday before opening a series at Baltimore on Friday, when Schwarber hopes to return to the lineup.
