The Washington Nationals and Philadelphia Phillies were set to kick off the second game of a three-game series at Citizen's Bank Park on Wednesday when a scary situation unfolded.
Just a few hours before first pitch, a Nationals staffer collapsed on the field during pre-game batting practice, NBC Sports Philadelphia's John Clark and others on the scene reported.
"There appears to be a serious medical situation on the field right now during Washington Nationals batting practice," Clark wrote on X along with a photo of the scene. "It appears someone collapsed and they are attending to him. "
The unidentified person was attended to by medical personnel and later carted off on a stretcher, according to Fox29 Philly's Devan Kaney.
Nationals players and staffers could be seen gathered around the pitchers mound, as well as kneeling in front of the team's third base dugout, while medics provided aid.
