The Philadelphia Phillies have been playing some improved baseball of late, currently sitting at 47-37 after a recent road win over the New York Mets. The Phillies seem to have fully put a rough start to the season behind them as they look to peak at the right time heading into the playoffs.

The Phillies have played most of the last month without starting pitcher Brad Keller, who has been out of the lineup due to forearm tendinitis, and recently, the team got a key update on his injury recovery process.

“Imaging came back clean after he was placed on IL before June 16 game. Has progressed to playing catch. Next step is throwing a bullpen session,” reported MLB.com.

The publication also noted that Keller’s expected return date is at some point in early July.

Keller had been having an up and down season for the Phillies prior to his injury, but it’s safe to say that the team would love to have the 30 year-old back in the lineup sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, the Phillies have slowly but surely inched their way back up the standings in the NL East, and now that the Atlanta Braves have started to reel, the Phillies sit just three games out of first place in the division, with several games against the Braves coming up on the schedule throughout the rest of the season.

The Phillies won the division last year but ultimately fell short in the playoffs against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and will hope to be playing their best baseball at the right time this time around.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia has just a few series left until the All-Star game, which will take place in their home stadium.
