The Philadelphia Phillies have had questions at third base in the past year and a half regarding Alec Bohm. Whether the team wants to replace him with an internal option remains to be seen, but there have been rumors that the Phillies could do so sometime in the near future.

Baseball America continues to consider it the team's top priority.

The outlet predicted that the Phillies would select Gavin Fien out of Great Oaks High School in California with the 26th pick in the 2025 MLB draft.

“Like Schoolcraft, Fien has had an up-and-down spring that is causing some teams to scratch their heads. Fien was arguably the best performer in the high school class throughout the summer circuit, and at this point in the draft, has a strong case for the best hit/power combo available. He’s a right-right high schooler who might be a corner profile, but that was the case for Aidan Miller at the time, as well—that pick has worked out nicely for the Phillies so far,” they wrote.

Fien, committed to the University of Texas, was a 2024 Perfect Game All-American. He's the No. 1 ranked third baseman in the country, top player in Texas, and the ninth overall ranked player in the 2025 high school class.

Playing for the San Diego Show, the 18-year-old throws 94 mph from the infield and 98 from the outfield.

The tools are clearly there, and that could entice the Phillies to take him in the first round.
