Phillies, Red Sox Suggested as Potential Partners Ahead of MLB Trade Deadline

The Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox are both looking to contend for a World Series run this season. At this point in the season, they have both shown flashes of being able to contend, but one team is in a much better position than the other.

Of course, the team in the better position is the Phillies. They hold a 43-30 record to this point in the year. As for the Red Sox, they are just 38-37 and are struggling to keep up in the American League East division race.

Could the two teams come together on a potential trade deadline move? That is exactly what one MLB insider has suggested.

Jim Bowden of The Athletic has named Boston relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman as a potential trade target. Philadelphia could use help in the bullpen and Chapman would be a great move to help fix the issue.

Chapman may be 37 years old, but he's been playing some of the best baseball of his career this season for the Red Sox.

Throughout the 2025 MLB season to this point, Chapman has appeared in 33 games for Boston. He has compiled a 3-2 record to go along with a 1.50 ERA, a 0.83 WHIP, a 4.7 K/BB ratio, 13 saves, one hold, and one blown save. Chapman has completed 30 innings of work.

Making a move for him would not necessarily be cheap for the Phillies. However, he is the kind of piece that could complete the puzzle in the bullpen.

If Chapman is made available, it's likely that the Red Sox would receive heavy interest from many different teams. Boston would be able to bring in some valuable young talent in a trade involving the left-handed closer.

Expect to hear a lot of rumors surrounding both the Red Sox and Philadelphia as the trade deadline comes closer. It wouldn't be shocking to see these two teams connected again.
