The Philadelphia Phillies will add a player at the trade deadline. It's only a matter of who, at this point, as Dave Dombrowski has proven in recent years that he's willing to go out and trade for areas of need.
The issue, however, is that the Phillies haven't landed on an impact player at the deadline in the past few years. Unless they figure things out and change that narrative, it wouldn't be surprising to see the same thing happen.
In a recent trade idea from Philly Voice, Philadelphia would land on a player who sounds all too familiar, given its recent pursuits. The trade idea would land Miguel Andujar of the Athletics, who was once a standout with the New York Yankees.
“A bit of a journeyman, Andujar has played for four teams over the last four seasons, but he's been solid with the Athletics so far in 2025, hitting .296. The problem with that average is it's based around 39 singles (78%). He hasn't flashed a whole lot of power during his career. He's also been mostly a backup fourth outfielder type throughout his career,” they wrote.
Andujar is a decent player, and there's a reason why he's been in the league since 2017.
He's a career .276 hitter and has shown some impressive signs during his time with the Athletics. However, while he's hitting .296 with an OPS+ of 105, this feels like one of those typical Philadelphia moves that doesn't ultimately work out.
The last thing Dombrowski wants is another bust.
