Phillies vs. Braves: The Philadelphia Phillies visit the Atlanta Braves for a three-game series against their big National League East rivals. Game 1 starts on Friday evening at Truist Park.

Philadelphia is presently at the bottom of the NL East with an 8-17 record. They extended their losing streak to nine games after falling to a four-game sweep against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday. As a result, the Phillies now have the joint-worst record in the MLB.

Atlanta, on the other hand, stands atop the NL East with an 18-8 record. They defeated the Washington Nationals on Thursday to take the three-game series on the road and maintain their big early lead in the standings. Moreover, the Braves hold the best record in baseball.

Phillies vs. Braves Game 1: Expected Pitching Match-up

Andrew Painter will be the starting pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 1. The 23-year-old has impressed on the mound but is, understandably, a bit inconsistent as a rookie. Thus far, he has logged 18.1 innings in his four outings with a 4.42 ERA and 20 strikeouts.

Grant Holmes will take the mound for the Atlanta Braves on Friday. The 30-year-old right-hander is enjoying a good run after coming into the Braves’ rotation due to injuries in spring training. He pitched 26.1 innings in his five starts so far, with 20 strikeouts and a 3.42 ERA.
