Pirates Belt Three Home Runs in Win Over Rockies

The Pittsburgh Pirates hit a trio of home runs in their 5-2 win over the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field on Friday night.

Bryan Reynolds extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a solo home run in the first inning. The blast put the Pirates (33-36) ahead 1-0.

After the Rockies (24-45) tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth, Andrew McCutchen belted a 448-foot solo homer to dead center.

The third home run of the game belonged to Jack Suwinski, whose 459-foot two-run blast extended the Pirates’ lead to 4-1.

All three home runs came against Rockies starter Ryan Feltner (1-6), who allowed four runs on seven hits in 6.2 innings pitched. He struck out eight batters.

For the Pirates, Carmen Mlodzinski was used as an opener for Luis Ortiz. Ortiz (3-2). Ortiz again thrived in the bulk role. He went five innings and allowed one run.

The Pirates added another run in the eighth inning when Reynolds followed McCutchen’s double with a base hit.

David Bednar finished things off in the ninth despite allowing a home run to Charlie Blackmon.

Rookie Jared Jones (4-5, 3.27 ERA) will start for the Pirates on Saturday night. Left-hander Ty Blach (2-4, 4.84 ERA) will go for the Rockies. First pitch: 9:10 ET.

Noteworthy

• Oneil Cruz was scratched from the lineup with left ankle soreness.
  The Pirates placed right-hander Hunter Stratton on the 15-day injured list with a right triceps strain. Lefty Josh Fleming was added to the active roster to take his place.
• To get Fleming on the 40-man roster, the Pirates designated Niko Goodrum for assignment.
• Right-hander Ben Heller accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Indianapolis. He was designated for assignment on Monday.
