Pittsburgh Pirates Starting Pitcher Paul Skenes was dealt a tough hand this evening on the road against the Milwaukee Brewers. He faced a Brewers team looking to notch its 11th straight win. His night got off to a rough start when the ace surrendered a leadoff home run to Right Fielder Sal Frelick.
He was not able to find his footing in what was a disappointing start. He surrendered four earned runs over four innings of work and punched out four. Milwaukee drove up his pitch count, forcing him to leave the game early. It was tied for his shortest outing of the season. That start also came against the Brewers on June 25. Can he rebound?
Skenes is putting together another strong regular season. Even though his record, 7-8, is not good, he is the frontrunner for the National League Cy Young Award. He is leading the league in ERA, sixth in strikeouts, and seventh in WHIP. His tough start should not overshadow what has been a great year.
The next scheduled start for Skenes will come on Monday at home against the Toronto Blue Jays. The ace will look to rebound the next time he toes the slab following a rough outing this evening.
