The NASCAR world lost a beloved employee and close friend to many popular drivers today as Jon Edwards of Hendrick Motorsports passed away.
Edwards served as the director of racing communications for Hendrick, but had been a longtime friend of the team's most-distinguished driver, the legendary Jeff Gordon. The four-time NASCAR champion took to X a short while ago and expressed how "devastated" he was to learn of Edwards' passing.
"I’m devastated by the loss of my dear friend, Jon. For almost three decades, we were side by side through every high and low, every celebration, and every challenge. He was one of the most loyal, hardworking and selfless people I’ve ever known, and I will be forever grateful for his immeasurable impact on my life and my career. My heart is with Jon’s family and everyone who loved him. He was truly one of a kind."

Gordon wasn't the only one who Edwards was a great friend too. Hendrick Motorsports released a statement of their own offering condolences, as have many others in the NASCAR world:
"This saddens me. Absolutely devastating news. Jon and I have worked closely over the years and he was the best. I’m going to miss him. Rest in peace, Jon," radio host Mike Bagley wrote.
"I’m so sorry for your loss! I can’t imagine the pain you feel. God bless you and his family in this time of loss," another user wrote.
"I am so sorry Jeff! I am as well! He was always amazing at your events. I am stunned. May you find comfort in your memories."
"Well said. He was one of the most professional and kind people I know in our garage, definitely a hard worker. He was an inspiration and will be greatly missed. With sympathy."
"Heartbroken when I heard this news. Jon Edwards treated everyone like they were gold. He currently worked as Kyle Larson’s primary PR person at Hendrick because he loved the PR role and life. RIP," FOX's Bob Pockrass wrote.
Edwards was 53 years old.
Our hearts go out to Mr. Edwards' family and loved ones.
