Seager has been on the injured list since May 18 due to lower back inflammation and has experienced multiple setbacks during his rehab, delaying his return. He recently played six innings in a rehab game on Wednesday for Double-A Frisco and went 0-for-3.
The 32-year-old is in the fifth year of a lucrative 10-year, $325 million contract he signed with the Rangers during the 2022 offseason. Despite being productive over the past couple of seasons, he has struggled this season prior to his IL stint.
In 42 games, Seager is slashing just .179/.286/.353 with seven home runs and 20 RBI. At one point, he went through an 0-for-27 stretch this year. The hope now is that, if Seager is fully healthy, he can get back on track and help a Texas offense that has been disappointing and decimated by injuries this season.
Seager isn't the only Ranger who has missed some time. Outfielder Wyatt Langford has been on the injured list since April 22 with a Grade 1 flexor strain. Langford's return, however, isn't that far off, as he could reportedly return as soon as this weekend.
The return of Seager and potentially Langford is coming at the right time. The Rangers have won five of their last six games and, despite being two games under .500 at 30-32, Texas remains just 2.5 games out of first place in the seemingly wide-open American League West.
