Red Sox add Eli White in trade with Braves

The Boston Red Sox were active at the MLB trade deadline as they look to lock down a postseason berth. The big news of the day was the blockbuster trade for Adley Rutschman with the Baltimore Orioles. However, they did make another notable deal with the Atlanta Braves.

The Red Sox have acquired outfielder Eli White from the Braves, as first reported by Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. In exchange, Boston sent right-handed pitcher Tyler Uberstine to Atlanta. Uberstine was the 14th-best prospect in Boston’s system, according to MLB Pipeline.

White is a veteran outfielder who primarily brings value through his speed and defense. The newest Red Sox player has a career slash line of .212/.270/.353. This year, he has a slash line of .233/.285/.406 in 144 plate appearances with five home runs and 17 RBI. Boston has two seasons of club control after this year.

Uberstine, meanwhile, has made one appearance in MLB for the Red Sox. He allowed a single run back on April 5 in 2.2 innings pitched. That appearance is his lone appearance in the big leagues to this point.

The 27-year-old hurler heads to the Braves looking for a clearer-cut MLB opportunity. In Triple-A this season, Uberstine has recorded a 2.81 ERA while striking out 29 percent of the batters he has faced. Perhaps there’s some value he can bring to Atlanta at some point this season.
