The Boston Red Sox, under interim manager Chad Tracy, continue to struggle this 2026 MLB season. While they showed some signs of life recently with three straight wins, they have since lost back-to-back games against the Toronto Blue Jays.
On Wednesday, the Blue Jays defeated the Red Sox 8-1, dropping Boston to 12-18 on the season. The team remains at the bottom of the American League East, two and a half games behind Toronto.
Making matters worse for the Red Sox, they lost ace Garrett Crochet before the game due to left shoulder inflammation. Crochet has been placed on the 15-day injured list as a result.
Despite the rough start to their campaign, however, the Red Sox continue to improve their game-day experiences and ensure that their fans have the best time whenever they go to Fenway Park to watch the team.
Recently, the team shared more updates about their theme night inspired by the hit drama series "Heated Rivalry." Boston announced its plan to have "Heated Rivalry Night" last March, bit no details were revealed at the time.
According to the Red Sox, they will host "Heated Rivalry Night" on Aug. 31 when they face the Seattle Mariners. Tickets for the game will go on sale on Thursday.
"Heated Rivalry" is a hit HBO series released in November 2025. It is based on the LGBTQ+ romance series by Rachel Reid titled "Game Changers."
The story is about professional hockey players named Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. While the two are competitors on the ice, they have a romantic relationship off it.
As for the series, it features actors Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie. The show recently won a Peabody Award in the entertainment category.
As part of the Red Sox's celebration, there will be a pregame dance party, as well as "Heated Rivalry" trivia and themed concessions at the Sam Deck. Meanwhile, fans who purchase the special offer "will receive a random Rozanov or Hollander Red Sox jersey."
"The rivalry is heating up with VIP packages: VIP tickets are extremely limited and bring you right into the action, where the tension and chemistry of Heated Rivalry come to life," the Red Sox stated.
"You'll get early access to the ballpark, your choice of a Rozanov or Hollander jersey, and a Red Sox x Heated Rivalry hat - and just like that, you're in the game."
The team also revealed that part of the proceeds from the ticket sales will go to OUT MetroWest, a nonprofit organization that helps LGBTQ+ youth.
