The Boston Red Sox season ended in the AL wild card round with a loss to the rival New York Yankees, marking the club’s first postseason appearance since 2021. Despite the early exit, the future remains bright in Boston, with one of the best young cores in the league. As the Red Sox look to take another step forward in 2026, it remains uncertain if third baseman Alex Bregman will return on a long-term deal.

Boston signed Bregman last offseason to a three-year, $120 million contract with opt-out clauses, and he chose to terminate the final two years of the deal in early October. He will once again be a free agent after the World Series, though a reunion with the Red Sox remains a possibility. The 31-year-old delivered in his first season in Boston, posting a .273 batting average, .360 on-base percentage, .821 OPS, 18 home runs and 62 RBIs across 114 games.

Bregman missed time due to injury but was still recognized Thursday for his work at the plate. Louisville Slugger released the finalists for the Silver Slugger awards, and Bregman was named among the third base finalists alongside Junior Caminero of the Tampa Bay Rays and Jose Ramirez of the Cleveland Guardians.

The Red Sox made an announcement congratulating Bregman on X. The post read, “Breggy is a Silver Slugger Award finalist!”

According to MLB.com, American League Silver Slugger winners will be announced Friday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. ET on The Baseball Insiders’ YouTube channel. Finalists and winners for the award are selected by MLB managers and coaches, with each team casting four votes based on hitting performance and overall contributions at the plate.

If Bregman takes home the award, it would be the second Silver Slugger of his career. He previously won in 2019 with the Houston Astros. Bregman was the lone finalist from the Red Sox. Bregman has continued to be recognized for his excellence on the field. The veteran third baseman has earned three All-Star selections and a Gold Glove award.

Bregman will once again draw interest from contenders around the league. Aside from the personal accolades, he also has won two World Series titles with the Astros and will bring postseason experience to whichever organization he joins.
