Red Sox make history with stunning Dodgers sweep

The Boston Red Sox made incredible history on the road after stunning the back-to-back reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers 8-4 on Sunday night.

Boston has experienced some serious ups and downs throughout the course of the season so far. They had one of the worst records in the league as they were at the bottom of the division standings. Despite this, they have since turned their campaign around with a recent 15-game win streak as they return to the fold as a playoff contender.

Going into the series finale, Boston already stunned Los Angeles in the first two games. They pulled off Game 1 by a 9-4 score and Game 2 by a 3-2 score, paving the way for a sweep in Game 3.

Throughout Boston’s history, the franchise has never been able to sweep Los Angeles on the road in any season. That used to be the case until they finally obtained their first series sweep at Dodger Stadium, per reporter Marcos Grunfield.

“The Red Sox swept the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium for the first time in franchise history,” Grunfield wrote.

How Red Sox played against Dodgers

The Red Sox are proud to have their season firmly back on track. Their series sweep over the Dodgers is a big sign that they can spell trouble for many playoff contenders this year.

Both teams got on the board within the first two innings, seeing Los Angeles lead 3-2. Despite this, Boston outscored the hosts 6-1 for the rest of the game, overwhelming them with big plays in the third, sixth and eighth frames.

Boston improved to a 60-51 record on the season, holding the third spot in the AL East Division standings. They are above the Baltimore Orioles and the Toronto Blue Jays while trailing the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays.

Rolling with five straight wins, the Red Sox will look forward to their next series. They are at home when they host the Chicago White Sox as Game 1 of the three-game set takes place on Aug. 4 at 7:10 p.m. ET.
