Red Sox OF Masataka Yoshida Breaks Silence on Latest Injury News

It's sad to see what Masataka Yoshida has had to deal with for the Boston Red Sox.

When he's been on the field and healthy, he's been an above-average player, despite some trade rumors over the past few months. Yoshida, whom the Red Sox signed to a five-year, $90 million deal, is still recovering from a shoulder injury.

Attempting to throw recently, Yoshida was seen on video calling over a trainer in pain, a concerning sign as the Red Sox want to get his bat in the lineup, at the very least.

Speaking to reporters, including the Boston Globe, Yoshida said on Tuesday that he felt pain, adding that it's something he'll have to deal with for the rest of the year.

“That’s when I feel it,” Yoshida said via an interpreter on Tuesday. “I talked to the trainers and the pain is something that I’ll have to deal with at least this year. I was aware of that.”

Shoulder injuries are never a good thing in Major League Baseball. Labrum tears and other shoulder injuries typically don't end well. While Tommy John isn't exactly something any player wants to deal with, it's much better than having an injury to the shoulder. Yoshida is the perfect example of that.

After posting a 114 OPS+ during the 2024 season, hitting 280 with 31 extra-base hits, he'd bring value to the Red Sox.

Boston will likely have a tough decision to make over the next few months on what they want to do with him, but things have been very ugly, and it doesn't sound like it'll end anytime soon.
