Red Sox Predicted to Land Star Pitcher at Trade Deadline

The Boston Red Sox have been one of the more interesting teams across baseball this season. Boston is fighting for a playoff spot, both in the American League East division and within the wild-card race in the AL.

But as the trade deadline quickly approaches, the Red Sox could be very active. Boston may be looking to bring in another starting pitcher to help bolster the rotation.

The Red Sox starters have been a bit up and down, but adding more talent could help things. Boston has some intriguing prospects that they could send out, making a trade potentially more likely.

In a new trade idea from Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report, the Red Sox add a former All-Star to the pitching rotation. Reuter has Boston land right-hander Sandy Alcántara to bolster the starting pitchers.

"However, the 2022 NL Cy Young winner still represents a potential impact addition to a team's rotation for the playoff push. His 2.74 ERA in 23 innings over his previous four starts looked like a step toward regaining his frontline form.

"The 29-year-old has a $17.3 million salary for the 2026 season and a $21 million club option for 2027, so he is more than just a rental. Any return package will need to reflect that remaining control," Reuter wrote.
