After the Boston Red Sox called up top prospect Roman Anthony, there have been constant rumors about what the Red Sox will do once players return from the injured list. With plenty of rumors, there is one seemingly consistent prediction involving trading one of the Red Sox's outfielders.

According to a prediction from Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report, the Red Sox are predicted to trade one of Jarren Duran or Wilyer Abreu at the MLB trade deadline.

"What's more likely," Kelly writes. "Is that either Jarren Duran or Wilyer Abreu who is moved. And there will be plenty of interest in both.

It's already been reported that the San Diego Padres are interested in Duran, according to a report from Dennis Lin of The Athletic. With teams likely to have a strong interest in either of the Red Sox outfielders, Kelly predicts one of them will be on the move.

Duran, who's under team control through 2028, will have a strong market. Abreu, also, will be under team control for a while, as he doesn't hit arbitration until 2027. Both will likely fetch a high price, and with a lack of outfielders available at the trade deadline, Boston would likely net a strong return for either.

In his fifth season in the big leagues, Duran has a .271 batting average with a .753 OPS. While a strong start to the season, it doesn't compare to his 2024 season numbers. He had a .834 OPS, 8.7 WAR, and he led the MLB in doubles (48) and triples (14).

Duran has played every game for the Red Sox over the past one and a half seasons. But, with Anthony in the big leagues, and Ceddane Rafaela the most unlikely Red Sox outfielder to be moved.

Abreu, meanwhile, is also playing well in 2025. He has a .245 batting average, but he's hit 13 home runs and has 51 hits total through 208 at-bats. His OPS in 2025 is higher than Duran's at .792.

Both would be solid additions for a team at the deadline, and with the Red Sox in need of shaking things up, Duran or Abreu are the most likely to be sent away.

Kelly predicts one of the two to be traded at the trade deadline, making way for Anthony to stay on the roster as the Red Sox reshuffle their roster amid the influx of youth into the MLB roster.
