For prospects like Roman Anthony of the Boston Red Sox, it isn't easy to sit in Triple-A and not be called up to Major League Baseball.
Anthony, one of the top prospects in the game, has done everything he possibly can throughout his minor league career to prove that he deserves a shot at the big league level.
He's continued to swing the bat at a very high level throughout the 2025 campaign, hitting .316 with six home runs, 49 hits, and a .959 OPS. At some point, the left-handed hitting outfielder will be called up.
However, when that time will come remains uncertain, and he admitted when speaking to the Boston Globe that it's hard not to think about it.
“It’s hard to not think about just because of honestly how much it’s talked about and how much of a trending topic it is in the media,” said Anthony. “We’re asked so much — so many of us — that question. But we really don’t know.
“And I think we’ve done a good job up to this point of just leaving it alone and not worrying about it and just wishing for the best for the team up there and hoping to get up there as fast as we can to help the team win. But for now, it’s just, we’re here. We’re trying to help this team win, and just trying to clean up on every little thing that we can before we can get up there.”
As the summer approaches, the expectation is for Anthony to get a chance at the big league level. However, the top priority for the Red Sox is getting him daily at-bats.
If he comes up and platoon or not have a full-time role, staying in Triple-A might be better for the youngster.
