Red Sox Skipper Alex Cora Makes Masataka Yoshida Injury Announcement

The Boston Red Sox were hopeful that Masataka Yoshida would be healthy at some point throughout the year. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem like it’ll be the case, and according to a recent report from the Boston Globe, this could take even longer than some expect.

The Globe has reported that the Red Sox won’t play Yoshida until he’s ready to play the outfield, and that doesn’t seem to be anytime in the near future.

“That is not likely to change any time soon. Until he is ready to play the outfield, the Red Sox have no plans to add him to the roster,” they wrote.

Boston are frustrated, Yoshida is frustrated, and everybody involved wishes this thing would go as planned for once.

Instead, there have been multiple setbacks, and it doesn’t look like there’s an end coming soon.

“I know he’s frustrated,” said manager Alex Cora shortly after. “I think we all are, right? It was major surgery. It was. And we haven’t rushed him through the process, we’ve been very patient and we will stay patient with him.

“He wants to play, and we gotta get it going, throwing-wise, and it’s been a challenge but it’s not lack of effort, it’s not lack of resources. I think our guys have done an amazing job (with him), it just hasn’t happened yet.”

While Yoshida hasn’t exactly been the best player in Major League Baseball since making his debut in the 2023 campaign after signing a five-year, $90 million deal, he’s still an above-average player, posting an above league average 111 OPS+ in over 1,000 plate appearances.
