Red Sox Top Prospect Reacts to Triston Casas Blunt Comments

Earlier this week, Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas was straightforward when he said he did not believe Boston's top prospects Roman Anthony, Kristian Campbell and Marcelo Mayer were ready to make the Opening Day roster for the club.

These comments have trickled down in Boston's spring training camp, and Mayer has since been asked about his thoughts on Casas' remarks.

Talking with the Boston Herald's Gabrielle Starr, Mayer said, "To me, my job is in between the lines, and I love the work I’m getting here. I’m learning a lot."

Manager Alex Cora also expressed the hope that there is no bad blood between Casas and any of the top prospects, as he is acting as a mentor. Casas, who is 25 years old, is entering his fourth season with the Red Sox organization.

Boston are trying to finalize its roster before the regular season begins, and this whole debacle with Casas and the prospects could ignite some energy in the Red Sox camp. There are still position battles to be won, and young players are fighting for Opening Day roster spots.

Casas also noted in the presser that Alex Bregman should be the team's second baseman, which is a whole other debate and kind of throws shade at Vaughn Grissom, who is fighting for that position as well.
