Red Sox's Alex Cora Announces Massive Injury Update on Masataka Yoshida

The Boston Red Sox have been able to stay above .500 this season, but they are still 6.5 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays for the top spot in the AL East.

A ton of drama has happened within the club this season, including the trade of Rafael Devers, a lot of mix and matching in the batting lineup, and rumors behind manager Alex Cora being in the hot seat.

Boston has been without their $90 million outfielder, Masataka Yoshida, all of this season as the 31-year-old has been rehabbing from a shoulder surgery he had last October.

Yoshida has been slowly ramping up, and after serving an assignment in Triple-A Worcester, he will finally be making his season debut Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies.

Manager Alex Cora said that the Red Sox activated Yoshida from the injured list and will insert him in the lineup, playing as the Red Sox's designated hitter.

After signing a five-year, $90 million foreign professional deal with the Red Sox in December of 2022, he's been one of the club's most reliable left-handed bats the past two seasons.

Through 248 career games in the MLB, Yoshida has a .248 batting average, .343 on base percentage, .433 slugging rate, and a .775 OPS while hitting 25 home runs, 128 RBI, and stealing 10 bases.

Although he won't be in his usual spot in the left field on Wednesday, expect Yoshida to take positive steps toward returning to the position later this season – most likely after the All-Star break.
