Reds-Giants brewing tension leads to pitcher getting ejected

Tension has been brewing in the Cincinnati Reds and San Francisco Giants series. It began after Giants pitcher JT Brubaker was upset that time was called right before he delivered a pitch to Reds hitter Spencer Steer on Wednesday. Steer then had some words for Brubaker before getting a hit on the very next pitch. On Thursday, Steer was hit on the first pitch he saw of the game by Giants starter Landed Roupp. Later in Thursday’s game, Willy Adames was hit by a pitch from Reds reliever Connor Phillips, which ultimately led to Phillips being ejected from the contest.

Players began to come out of the dugouts, but nothing ended up escalating. Although the video above does not show it, Phillips was ejected, according to Pat Brennan.

(UPDATE) After the game, which the Giants won 3-0, the benches cleared once again. Reds first baseman Sal Stewart and Giants closer Erik Miller exchanged some words after the game-ending strikeout. Miller was seen pointing toward the dugout, telling Stewart to leave the field as the game was over.

The Reds entered Thursday’s game with a 2-0 series lead. Elly De La Cruz has helped to lead the Reds in the series. The same can be said for Stewart, who had six RBIs on Wednesday in the team’s 8-3 win.

San Francisco currently holds a 3-0 lead in Thursday’s contest, however. Cincinnati’s lineup has been unable to bring its momentum from Wednesday into Thursday’s matchup.

Nevertheless, the Reds have played well to begin the new season. They entered play with an 11-7 overall record. The Giants, however, entered the game with a lackluster 6-12 record. With that being said, they still feature potential and could turn things around.

For now, the Giants are focused on trying to avoid getting swept by the Reds in Cincinnati.
