Report: Clay Holmes drawing interest from Braves

Holmes has been on the IL since May 15th with a fractured fibula, but he’s amid a rehab assignment and should be ready to return to the majors soon. He’s essentially a rental, as he’ll almost certainly decline his $12 million player option because of the way he’s pitched, boasting a 2.39 ERA over nine starts, and that comes after a 2025 campaign in which he recorded a 3.53 ERA in his first year as a full-time starter.

Holmes fits into that category of playoff-caliber starting pitcher Alex Anthopoulos has been targeting for years, even if adding one has yet to come to fruition. He still has a couple of hours to make it happen before the timer runs out, but hoping the Mets will deal anything of significance to a rival like the Braves is probably not Anthopoulos’ most foolproof strategy.
