Report: Phillies to play Yankees instead of Marlins; Miami's schedule unknown

The coronavirus outbreak affecting the Miami Marlins that has resulted in at least 18 Miami players testing positive for the virus continues to disrupt the MLB season.

Both the Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies, who hosted the Marlins last weekend, have been idle since Sunday, and the two clubs were scheduled to begin a series next Tuesday (Aug. 4). However, MLB insider Jon Heyman is reporting those games are off, and that the Phillies will instead head to the Bronx to begin home-and-home outings versus the New York Yankees

Heyman didn't elaborate on how these alterations affect New York's previously scheduled opponents or other teams around the league.

Assuming Miami's games against Philadelphia won't be replaced, the Marlins will now be off from July 27 through at least Aug. 6. Miami is scheduled to begin a three-game series versus the New York Mets on Aug. 7.

While no Philadelphia players have tested positive for the virus since Sunday, MLB temporarily suspended the club's season as a precaution. The league canceled a weekend series between the Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday after a Philadelphia coach and clubhouse staff member tested positive.
