Reynaldo Lopez posts shutout performance against the Mets

Reynaldo Lopez was probably the biggest question mark in the Braves starting rotation this year, but through two outings, he's been just what Atlanta needed.

With Spencer Strider's future uncertain and Max Fried off to a poor start, Lopez and the rest of the Braves pitching staff need to step up. While Lopez was credited with the loss against the White Sox on April 2, he only gave up one run on four hits. On Tuesday night against the Mets, he was even better.

Lopez shut out the Mets in his six innings on the mound, only giving up three hits and striking out six Mets batters. While he did walk three opposing batters, he shut New York down once itd hitters got on base, and went a full six innings for the second consecutive start. For a player who was formerly a relief pitcher, Tuesday's 94-pitch outing was impressive from Lopez in his first season as a starter.

Lopez's next outing is officially unknown, but will likely come on April 14 when Atlanta takes on the struggling Marlins inside Loan Depot Park. That game will be the finale of a three-game set in Miami.

The Braves currently lead the Mets 6-0 in the bottom of the seventh, with Lopez's shutout being one of the biggest reasons Atlanta currently holds the lead. If the Braves hold on to the lead and win, Lopez would notch his first win of the season in his Truist Park debut.
