Rockies' Fourth-Rated Prospect Making Rapid Recovery After Injury

It's starting to look like there's nothing that will stop Colorado Rockies prospect Jared Thomas.

The talented outfielder with the sweet lefthanded swing was originally ruled out for the remainder of the year with a right hamate injury. Instead, his status was upgraded. He returned to working out in early July, and he will finish the rest of the season preparing for next year.

A left-handed hitter with pop at the plate, Thomas is currently ranked No. 4 in the Rox rankings of their top Minor League players at MLB Pipeline. He's right there with names like Ethan Holliday and Charlie Condon as potential future stars for the franchise.

In February, the Rockies announced that Thomas wasn't participating in spring training while recovering from surgery. But it didn't play out that way for long. Currently, the youngster is continuing his rehab assignment with the ACL Rockies. He won't see any game action the rest of the way, but his main focus is making the roster in 2027.

Thomas brings not just a power presence but a package of skills that includes adept baserunning and enough defensive talent to play all three outfield positions. His official MLB.com scouting report states that he must make better contact before he makes it to The Show.

"When 100 percent, he’s very hitterish from the left side of the plate with a smooth swing that helps him typically barrel up baseballs consistently with sneaky power. When he got to Double-A, he did have more trouble recognizing spin, leading to high miss rates against breaking stuff. He’s dug into his swing decisions with the Rockies’ new hitting team to re-establish his approach."
