Rockies Make Major Coaching Decision Amid Historically Bad Start

The Colorado Rockies were at home on Sunday afternoon as they closed out their three-game weekend series against the San Diego Padres.

Colorado entered Sunday’s game looking to bounce back after being shut out 21-0 by San Diego on Saturday night, and that is exactly what they were able to do.

The Rockies picked up a 9-3 victory over the Padres behind a great performance from starting pitcher German Marquez along with Hunter Goodman collecting three hits and five RBIs in the game.

With the victory, the Rockies picked up their seventh victory of the season as they now hold an abysmal 7-33 record.

While the Rockies were able to pick up a much-needed victory on Sunday, it did not take long for them after the game to make a major announcement regarding manager Bud Black.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Rockies announced that they have fired Black after their terrible 7-33 start to the season.

Of course, this was Black’s ninth season as the Rockies manager and he will now finish his time in Colorado with a 544-690 record.

During Black’s tenure with the team, the Rockies made it to the postseason just twice, which came in his first two seasons as their manager in 2017 and 2018.

In those two postseason appearances, the Rockies were able to grab just one victory, which came in 2018 against the Chicago Cubs in the NL Wild Card Series.

After that victory, the Rockies would struggle to remain competitive, especially in the NL West and their struggles have continued into this season with their historically bad 7-33 start.

Because of this, it is not a surprise that they elected to move on from Black as they desperately try to turn their franchise around.

With Black now gone, Colorado announced that Warren Schaeffer will step into his role as manager and his first game will come on Monday night as the Rockies begin a three-game road series against the Texas Rangers.
