The Boston Red Sox made a roster move on Monday, following their weekend series win at Yankee Stadium.
Top prospect Roman Anthony was called up to the big leagues and made his MLB debut that night. While he went 0-for-4 at the plate, he still managed to drive in a run and drew a walk in the Red Sox’s 10-8 extra-inning loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.
Before the game, NESN aired an interview with Anthony in which he reflected on the emotional moment of being called up to the majors.
"That call to my family, few coaches and friends was pretty emotional. No matter when that call comes, nobody is really expecting it. It happens fast. It’s exciting, it’s what you dream of.”

Anthony hit fifth in the batting order and started in right field. In his first at-bat, with one on and no outs in the second inning, he flew out to left. In the fourth, he lined a ball off pitcher Shane Baz but was thrown out.
In the sixth, he struck out with two runners on. He reached base with a walk in the seventh and grounded out in the ninth, scoring Rafael Devers on the play for his first career RBI.
Anthony played high school baseball at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Originally committed to play college ball at Ole Miss, he instead went pro after being selected 79th overall by the Red Sox in the 2022 MLB Draft.
He signed for an over-slot bonus of $2.5 million and climbed steadily through the Red Sox minor league system, producing at every level. Now 21 years old, Anthony joins fellow prospects Kristian Campbell and Marcelo Mayer in Boston’s young lineup. Campbell and Mayer are both just 22.
Boston fans are hopeful this youthful trio can spark new energy in the lineup as the team looks to build momentum.
