The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres have formed a rivalry in recent years.
It's always been a thing with both teams in California, but over the past few years, there have been some competitive games between the two sides.
On paper, the Dodgers are the far better team, but the Padres have some talent, and if things don't break Los Angeles' way, there's a chance San Diego could win a series against them.
And Padres superstar Manny Machado is ready for that to happen. He spoke with reporters, highlighting how talented the Dodgers are, but also noted that he's excited to beat them.
“Our division now is by far the best division in baseball,” Machado said, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. “Hands down. We’ve got four teams who could make the playoffs.
“The Dodgers are [expletive] good, man. But we’re excited to take them down. There’s nothing better than having a championship team in your division that you can knock off.”
Dodgers fans have been on Machado's case over the past few years. He typically has plenty to say about the organization, but that's simply a part of the rivalry.
Right now, the Dodgers are at the top of the world after winning a World Series. Every team, including the Padres, will do whatever they can to knock them off the throne.

Commanders crush training camp buzz with stunning trade report
Adam Peters is not one for sitting on his hands. And according to a recent report, the Washington Commanders general manager is looking to offload another veteran player who might not be part of the team's plans moving forward. According to Dianna Russini from The Athletic, the Commanders are gauging interest from around the league in Noah Igbinoghene. The cornerback enjoyed a decent 2024 campaign with significant responsibilities on his shoulders and deservedly got a new one-year deal this offseason. After starring at training camp and flashing in the preseason, most fans thought his place in Washington's corner unit was secure. That is more uncertain than ever now. Nothing has been confirmed one way or another, but at this time of year, there is also no smoke without fire. Commanders taking a big risk by potentially trading Noah Igbinoghene Igbinoghene is ascending when all hope seemed lost once upon a time. He was taken in the first round by the Miami Dolphins but never met expectations. Dan Quinn and Joe Whitt Jr. spent one year working with him on the Dallas Cowboys before bringing the defensive back to Washington. He's finally starting to put everything together, so this would be a questionable move. The Commanders' cornerback group is expected to be among their strengths this season. Marshon Lattimore and second-round rookie Trey Amos are the starting boundary tandem. Mike Sainristil is the potential superstar in the nickel. Two-time Super Bowl winner Jonathan Jones joined the ranks this offseason, and Igbinoghene was expected to round off the unit. There isn't much quality aside from that. Considering the injury issues around Lattimore and the age of Jones, keeping Igbinoghene has more benefits than letting him go. And it's also worth noting that he counts just $1.5 million against the Commanders' salary cap in 2025. It'll be interesting to see if a willing suitor comes forward for Igbinoghene. There are several teams in need of improving their cornerback depth, so they could see his current trajectory as the start of a potential career renaissance into his prime. He's also entering his sixth season and is still just 25 years old, which carries a ton of weight. Developments will happen quickly. How Browns feel about Deshaun Watson amid unsettled quarterback situation
Deshaun Watson has become somewhat of a forgotten figure regarding the Cleveland Browns' unique quarterback situation that could involve the club having starter Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, 2025 third-round draft pick Dillon Gabriel and 2025 fifth-rounder Shedeur Sanders on the roster for its Week 1 game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 7. For an article published on Monday, Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer noted that Watson will miss at least the first four games of the 2025 season after he suffered a torn Achilles last October and then tore the Achilles again during his recovery. However, it sounds like the Browns haven't yet completely closed the door on Watson returning to the active roster before Week 18 wraps up. "He’s coming along well in his rehab from his re-torn Achilles repair and could be ready to go later in the season," Cabot wrote about Watson. "Whether or not the Browns will activate him remains to be seen, but they’ve been happy with how he’s attacked his rehab and how he’s helped the other QBs, especially Gabriel and Sanders." Watson has made just 19 regular-season starts with the Browns since he received a fully guaranteed five-year, $230M contract from the club in March 2022. He served an 11-game suspension related to allegations of sexual misconduct during massage sessions to open his first campaign with Cleveland. His 2023 season ended prematurely because of a shoulder issue. He then lost six of seven starts last season before he went down with the initial Achilles injury. It was suggested earlier this month that Watson could essentially force the Browns to move him to the 53-man roster if he's cleared to play this coming fall. Such a scenario theoretically would result in Cleveland having to part ways with a different signal-caller. While the previously mentioned Sanders is clearly fourth on Cleveland's current depth chart, Cabot wrote that the Browns like the rookie "a lot and will continue to develop him." Cabot added that "the Browns have always planned to keep four quarterbacks and will only pivot if someone makes them an offer they can’t refuse." Pickett presumably would become the odd man out regarding such a potential trade. Still, he first needs to fully recover from the hamstring injury he picked up on July 26 that kept him from playing in any preseason games. Meanwhile, Watson will continue his recovery behind the scenes after Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said earlier this year that Cleveland "took a big swing and miss with Deshaun." The Browns reportedly could escape Watson's deal next offseason.
Cowboys rookie CB to miss significant time after roster designation
The Dallas Cowboys have already been ravaged by injuries so far throughout training camp and the preseason slate. And now, thanks to injury, it appears that fans are going to have to wait to see one of the team's top draft picks in the 2025 season. According to reports from Cowboys insider Clarence Hill Jr., rookie cornerback Shavon Revel has been added to the Non-Football Injury List ahead of the team's Week 1 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. In corresponding moves, the Cowboys will place both defensive end Peyton Turner and receiver Jonathan Mingo on Injured Reserve Designated To Return. Running back Phil Mafah will also be moved to injured reserve. Revel was placed on the NFI list as a result of a torn ACL, which was suffered during practice in Week 4 of his final season in college with the East Carolina Pirates. Because that injury occurred in college, and away from Dallas Cowboys facilities or team activities, Revel was placed on the NFI list instead of the PUP list. By being placed on the NFI List, Revel, who was selected by Dallas with the 76th overall pick in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, will miss at least the first six weeks of the season. Fortunately for the Cowboys, it appears that starting corner Trevon Diggs should be back sooner rather than later. In other words, the team will have both he and DaRon Bland - their top two corners - as well as Kaiir Elam for their season opener, allowing Revel plenty of time to continue his recovery. In his career at East Carolina, Revel played in 24 games, making 70 total tackles, five tackles for loss, and three interceptions, with 15 pass breakups. He also earned an 83.5 PFF coverage grade in his last full season in 2023, and an 85.4 coverage grade in 2024 in the three games in which he appeared. In other words, whenever he does return to the fold for Dallas, he should be able to come in and be an immediate contributor to the defense. —
