The San Diego Padres have put together one of the worst five-game stretches in league history. They are only the second team in MLB history to accomplish these things over five games. They scored 3 or fewer runs, allowed 30+ runs, allowed 10+ home runs, and committed 5+ errors.
The other team to accomplish this was the San Diego Padres in 1969 for their first five losses in franchise history. San Diego’s woes this season began with being swept by the Seattle Mariners and dropping the first two of their games against the Toronto Blue Jays. San Diego has been outscored a whopping 32-3 over their last five games. Will the San Diego Padres get out of this historically bad rut?
The 2025 Padres are the second team in MLB history to have a 5-game stretch where they:
scored 3 or fewer runs
allowed 30+ runs
allowed 10+ home runs
committed 5+ errorsThe other was the Padres themselves from April 11-16, 1969 – the first 5 losses in franchise history.

San Diego’s rough stretch has them in third place in the National League West at 27-20. Even with a terrible week at the plate, San Diego’s offense has been mediocre this year. They are seventh in the league in batting average, 26th in home runs, and 18th in runs scored. Third Baseman Manny Machado is ninth in batting average. Right Fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. is top 20 in home runs and OPS.
Much like the San Diego offense, the pitching staff has been good throughout the regular season. They are 10th in ERA, third in opposing batting average, and seventh in WHIP. A few Padres pitchers have stood out in 2025. Nick Pivetta is seventh in the league in wins. Michael King is top 20 in the league in ERA, strikeouts, and WHIP. Closer Robert Suarez is also second in saves. Jason Adam is third in holds.
The San Diego Padres return to the diamond this afternoon against the Toronto Blue Jays looking to get back in the win column. San Diego has a talented roster, but their five-game stretch is unacceptable.
