San Francisco Giants Manager Bob Melvin made history this afternoon on the road in a 9-3 win against the Atlanta Braves. It was his 1,651st career win. He passed Mike Scioscia on the all-time list. Melvin has a regular season record of 1,651-1556. The Giants skipper has guided the team to a 54-49 record in 2025. They are 1.5 games out of a playoff spot. How many wins will the skipper end the season with?

Melvin’s managerial career began with the Seattle Mariners. He was with the team from 2003 to 2004. He spent 2004-2009 as the skipper of the Arizona Diamondbacks. He then spent 11 seasons(2011-2021) with the Oakland Athletics. That is the stint he is most associated with.
The veteran manager remained out West when he managed the San Diego Padres(2022-2023) for two seasons. He has spent the last two seasons shepherding the San Francisco Giants. Melvin was named the American League Manager of the Year in 2012 and 2018. The only glaring hole in his resume is a lack of postseason success. He is 16-23 all-time in the MLB Playoffs.
Next up on the all-time list for the Giants manager is Buck Showalter. The Giants skipper needs 75 wins to surpass Showalter. That will come in 2026. This was a historic day for Melvin. He will look to keep the Giants playing well and exorcise his playoff demons in the fall.
