The Los Angeles Dodgers boast arguably MLB's best duo in Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts. Sitting atop a deep Dodgers lineup, this duo combined for 73 home runs, 205 RBI and 209 runs scored last season. These incredible statistical totals were achieved despite Betts playing just 116 games due to injury.
Ohtani won the 2024 National League MVP award, while Betts was named to his eighth All-Star team and took home his seventh Silver Slugger award. While both Ohtani and Betts saw their production dip in the postseason, the star duo did enough to help the Dodgers win their eighth World Series.
On Thursday, Betts made an announcement on Instagram with Topps baseball cards that fittingly highlighted his star teammate.
"It's Mookie here," Betts said in a video for Topps' Instagram page. "Live in Tokyo, Japan. I get to the opportunity to announce card No. 1 of the 2025 Topps Series One. And it goes to none other than the guy I bat behind. I get to see him hit 50 homers, 50 steals, do any and everything. It goes to Shohei Ohtani."
"And the honor of card number 1 goes to… @mookiebetts makes it official," Topps captioned the post.
This Instagram post has tallied over 7,250 likes since it was shared on Thursday morning. Reacting to the announcement from his teammate, Ohtani reshared the post on his Instagram story.
Making history in his first season with the Dodgers, Ohtani is now officially card No. 1 of the 2025 Topps Series One set. Per the Topps website, this 350-card set is available on Feb. 12.
