Los Angeles Dodgers superstar two-way player Shohei Ohtani is a unicorn on the baseball diamond as he can do everything at an elite level. He has not been able to pitch since suffering an elbow injury in the 2023 season that required a second Tommy John surgery while with the Los Angeles Angels. Now, it is getting closer that the three-time Most Valuable Player will make his return to the pitching mound but when will that officially be? Let’s take a look at the recent news.

Shohei Ohtani Pitching Very Soon

The Los Angeles Dodgers confirmed on social media that Shohei Ohtani will be the starting pitcher for Monday’s opening game of the series against the San Diego Padres. This is massive news as the team did not announce exactly how many pitches he will be throwing, but this is the first time that Ohtani is pitching with the Dodgers since signing with the team ahead of the 2024 season.

This is the second Tommy John surgery that Shohei Ohtani has undergone, and it is rare for pitchers to get back to their previous level after a second surgery. He has made 86 starts in Major League Baseball throughout his career and has gone 38-19 with a 3.01 ERA and a 1.082 WHIP in 481.2 innings. With the Los Angeles Dodgers looking to figure things out with their pitching staff dealing with a significant number of injuries, getting Shohei Ohtani back on the mound is critical. Even if he is going to be limited in terms of number of pitches or innings thrown, this will be a chance to see Shohei Ohtani’s abilities to continue shining through.
