Texas Rangers Starting Pitcher Jacob deGrom has turned back the clock in 2025. He will need to be just as good this evening when he faces the best team in the American League, the Toronto Blue Jays. He has been very good this season. He is 10-5 with a 2.86 ERA. He is 11th in the league in ERA and fourth in WHIP.
Following what has been an injury-plagued last half-decade, the all-time great has turned back the clock this season with the Texas Rangers. He has remained healthy, and exemplary results have followed. How will he fare on the bump this evening?
deGrom faced the Toronto Blue Jays earlier this season and fared well. They are a much different ballclub now, though. He surrendered 2 earned runs over 5.1 innings of work against the Jays on May 26. Toronto’s calling card this year has been its offense. They are leading the league in batting average by a wide margin, 14th in home runs, and seventh in runs scored.
Toronto has also scored 10+ runs three times in its last 10 games. First Baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is putting together another strong campaign. He is in the top 10 in the league in batting average and OPS. The key for deGrom to experience success is to settle in early. If he could get off to a good start, he stands a chance of limiting Toronto’s offensive output.
This should be an exciting matchup of strength against strength this evening in Canada. deGrom will have his work cut out for him, though. The former Cy Young Award winner will look to have another solid start during what has been a resurgent season.
