The Athletics once again missed the MLB playoffs in their first season away from the city of Oakland, but fans were given at least one reason for optimism in two of their rookies.
Shortstop Jacob Wilson finished in second for American League Rookie of the Year, while his teammate Nick Kurtz actually took home the hardware.
The first-round draft pick from Wake Forest played just 33 games in the minor leagues before making his MLB debut on April 25. He did little but mash when he arrived, hitting 36 home runs and driving in 86 runners with a .290 batting average. His home runs were the second-most by an A’s player in franchise history, and on July 25 he became the 18th player ever to hit four home runs in one game.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Kurtz is the first Athletic to be named Rookie of the Year since 2009. With that being said, can you name every player to be named American League Rookie of the Year since the designation was awarded in both leagues (since 1949) in 10 minutes?
Good luck!
