The 'Last MLB debut homers by team' quiz

There may not be a father on Earth walking taller Wednesday morning than George Lombard Sr. 

On Tuesday afternoon, his son Jacob hit a home run in his Minor League debut with the Jupiter Hammerheads in the Miami Marlins system. Later his other son George had about as great a Major League debut as a player could hope for while playing shortstop for the New York Yankees. 

In the second inning, George Jr. flashed his glove, starting a slick double play that Yankees color commentator Paul O’Neil said fans “haven’t seen turned in the Yankee infield all year.”

In the fifth, he showed off his bat, mashing a 81-mph sweeper from Hunter Dobbins 392 feet and over the left field fence for his first MLB hit and homer to give the Bronx Bombers a 2-0 lead that they’d hold the rest of the way.

While some Yankees fans may be wary still of Lombard Jr. after the disappointment of the Anthony Volpe-era at shortstop, the 21-year-old has given them something to rally around after what many felt was an underwhelming trade deadline.

Which brings us to today’s quiz. Lombard Jr. is the first Yankee to hit a home run in his MLB debut since Jasson Dominguez took Justin Verlander deep on Sept 1, 2023. With that being said, can you name the most recent player to hit a home run in their Major League debut for each franchise?
