Pitchers and catchers are beginning to report to Spring Training across Major League Baseball, and a familiar face will be joining the Detroit Tigers in Lakeland, Florida.
The Tigers and soon-to-be 43 year old veteran starting pitcher Justin Verlander have agreed to a one-year, $13 million contract for the 2026 season. Verlander, who has won three Cy Young awards, an American League MVP World Series title, returns to where his Hall of Fame career as a Tiger in 2005.
While he’s clearly past his triple crown-winning days and his Win-Loss record was an ugly 4-11 with San Francisco last year, he still showed he has something to offer a Big League rotation. He made 29 starts at 42 years old, with a respectable 3.85 ERA and 137 strikeouts in 152 innings.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Verlander currently sits eighth all-time in MLB’s Live-Ball Era strikeouts list (since 1920) with 3,553 ahead of his 21st campaign. With that being said, can you name every pitcher with at least 2,500-career strikeouts in the Live-Ball Era?
Good luck!
