The 2026 New York Mets will go down as one of the more disappointing teams in MLB history, and with the trade deadline this Monday, one of the contributors to that disappointment is on the move.
Starting pitcher Freddy Peralta, who they acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers this offseason, is heading to the Tampa Bay Rays after a disastrous 22-start tenure in Queens. After posting a 2.70 ERA and leading the National League with 17 wins last year with the Brewers, Peralta is 5-9 with a 4.99 ERA with just a solitary seven-inning start.
Despite his rough season so far, this could be an excellent move for both the first-place Rays and Peralta. Tampa Bay is known for their pitching development, and with Peralta slotting into a rotation already featuring Drew Rasmussen and (the currently injured) Shane McLanahan, the Rays pitching should make them a tough out in a postseason series.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Before this season, Peralta was coming off of three-straight 200-strikeout campaigns and has 113 in 113 2/3 innings this season. With that being said, can you name MLB’s active leaders in strikeouts?
Good luck!
