The 'Multi-time Cy Young winners' quiz

Happy 64th birthday to 11-time All-Star, seven-time Cy Young and ERA title winner, two-time World Series champion and 1986 American League MVP, Roger Clemens!

Clemens – also known as “Rocket,” – was one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball history. After finding his feet as a Big Leaguer in his first two seasons, by 1986 he announced himself as a premier arm in baseball.

He went a staggering 24-4 with an A.L.-best 2.48 ERA with 238 strikeouts in 254 innings. It was the first of 12 200-strikeout seasons Clemens authored in his 24-year career, with his high-water mark coming with 292 with the Blue Jays in 1997. He’s also one of just five pitchers to strike out 20 batters in a single game and is the only player to do it twice.

Despite his dominance, Clemens didn’t win a World Series until joining the New York Yankees dynasty of the late 1990s, winning rings in 1999 and 2000. In 2000, he had the infamous moment where he chucked a broken bat at Mike Piazza as he ran to first base in Game 2 of the 2000 Subway Series.

After leaving the Yankees following the 2003 season, he made two more All-Star appearances and one more trip to the World Series in three seasons as a Houston Astro before returning to and retiring with the Yankees in 2007.

Which brings us to today’s quiz. Clemens is top-10 in MLB history in strikeouts (4,672), games started (707) and wins (354), and he’s one of 23 pitchers to win multiple Cy Young awards. With that being said, how many of those 23 pitchers can you name in five minutes?

Good luck!
