There had been a lot of speculation about what the Red Sox would do with Devers and Bregman since they both play third base. They'll have both in their lineup for most games except when one or both need days off.
The Red Sox signed Bregman to a three-year $120 million contract during the offseason and the deal includes opt-outs after the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
Prior to signing with the Red Sox, Bregman had spent the previous nine seasons with the Houston Astros. He finished the 2024 season with 26 home runs and 75 RBIs and had a batting average of .260.
He has hit 20+ home runs in each of his last three seasons and has hit 191 home runs during his career.
Devers has been with the Red Sox for the previous eight seasons and finished the 2024 season with 28 home runs and 83 RBIs. They have two players who are not only good defensively but can mash the long ball.
The Red Sox are trying to make the playoffs this season for the first time since 2021 when they got to the ALCS. They have missed the playoffs in four consecutive seasons and finished the 2024 season with an 81-81 record.
MLB Opening Day is on Thursday and the Red Sox will open the season on the road against the Texas Longhorns. First pitch is set for 4:05 p.m. ET.
They'll then play the Rangers three more times on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to close out a four-game set.
