The Chicago Cubs have a lot of players who can swing the bat well at the MLB level. They had success finding players that can swing the bat well throughout the system with names like Moises Ballesteros, Ian Happ, and Nico Hoerner going through the Cubs farm system. But which current prospect is hitting the best this season? Let’s take a closer look at who it is.

Pedro Ramirez is considered the hottest hitting prospect for the Chicago Cubs right now

Knoxville Smokies infielder Pedro Ramirez (2) throws the ball during a minor league baseball game between the Knoxville Smokies and Montgomery Biscuits for Superhero Night at Covenant Health Park in Knoxville, Tenn., on July 12, 2025.

The trio of Jim Callis, Jonathan Mayo, and Sam Dykstra wrote an article highlighting the top-performing offensive prospect for each MLB team. Chicago had their eighth-ranked prospect in third/second baseman Pedro Ramirez on this list. Below is what the trio said about his hitting thus far:

“Signed out of the same Venezuelan training program along with Moises Ballesteros in 2021, Ramirez has similar bat-to-ball skills and is demonstrating newfound power. His seven homers in 26 Triple-A games are just one shy of his career high, and he’s hitting .311/.383/.602 while ranking second in the Minors in total bases (62) and RBIs (29).”

In addition to what they wrote, Ramirez is a switch-hitter who can balance out a lineup. He is still awaiting a call to the big leagues to make his MLB debut, but there’s a bit of a logjam at the positions he plays. He also has shown the ability to run the bases well, swiping 10 bases on 11 attempts this season. This is his first taste of Triple-A, so it could be a little while before the front office wants to call him up.

However, it will not be much longer if he continues to hit at this type of level. With a 1.005 OPS and the need to improve a bit more defensively, it will not be too long until he gets the call to Wrigleyville.
