Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Casey Mize has made an impact since returning to the team’s rotation from a groin strain. However, he suffered an apparent injury during Wednesday’s contest against the Los Angeles Angels. According to Chris McCosky, Mize exited after four innings of work on the mound.

“Casey Mize is done after four strong innings. We await the diagnosis. This was his third start back from the groin strain. Two runs allowed in 16.2 innings,” McCosky reported.

The Tigers have dealt with a number of injury concerns this year. Tarik Skubal is among the Tigers who is currently injured. Detroit wants to compete this season, but the team’s underperformance has surely been impacted by all of the injuries.

Mize, 29, has pitched to a 2.27 ERA across his nine starts in 2026. He has 49 strikeouts as well. The right-handed hurler has impressed while on the mound. Avoiding injury has been the concern for him this year, though.

The Tigers will continue to monitor and provide updates on Casey Mize’s injury status as they are made available.

Detroit entered the contest on Wednesday night with a 21-34 overall record. The ball club is currently in last place in the American League Central standings. The Cleveland Guardians — who defeated the Washington Nationals 3-2 on Wednesday — are in first place in the division and hold a 10.5 game lead over the Tigers at the moment.

Detroit is hoping to get back on track soon. The Tigers do lead the Angels as of this story’s writing by a score of 3-0.
