The Detroit Tigers are trying to compete this season. Their plethora of injuries have made that goal quite a challenge, however. Tarik Skubal is continuing to recover from injury, while Casey Mize exited Wednesday’s 4-0 win against the Los Angeles Angels with an injury. On Thursday, the Tigers received encouraging Gleyber Torres and Kerry Carpenter injury updates, however.

“Kerry Carpenter and Gleyber Torres are going to Toledo tomorrow. Carpenter is expected to play on rehab assignment. Torres won’t play immediately but could by the end of the weekend,” Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reported.

Torres has hit .259/.389/.328 across 32 games played. He has two home runs as well. The three-time All-Star could reportedly begin a rehab assignment by the end of the weekend.

Meanwhile, Carpenter is set to begin a rehab assignment soon. While he has only hit .216/.299/.451 in his 37 games played this year, Carpenter has recorded six home runs. In 2025, he hit 26 home runs.

Both players will help the ball club in a crucial manner once they return from their injuries. The Tigers will continue to monitor and provide updates on Torres and Carpenter’s injury statuses as they are made available.

At 22-34, Detroit is currently tied with the Kansas City Royals for fourth place in the American League Central standings. They are 10 games behind the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the division. The Tigers have time to turn things around, but they need to begin winning games on a consistent basis sooner rather than later.

On Thursday, they will host the Angels once again at 1:10 PM EST.
