Dillon Dingler will not go on the injured list after Wednesday's right-hand scare, the Detroit Tigers announced Thursday, with the All-Star catcher considered day to day.
The Tigers still made a roster move in response, recalling catcher Eduardo Valencia from Triple-A Toledo and designating Jahmai Jones for assignment, per Tigers broadcast reporter Daniella Bruce.
The moves give Detroit added catching depth as Dingler's availability remains uncertain for Thursday's game against the New York Yankees . Jake Rogers, who pinch-hit for Dingler on Wednesday and immediately launched a two-run home run, remains the primary backup. Valencia will serve as the third catcher on the active roster. The club wanted an extra option available rather than enter the final series before the break shorthanded behind the plate.
The Tigers have recalled Eduardo Valencia and DFA’d Jahmai Jones.

No IL stint for Dillon Dingler. He is considered day to day. #DNMW
Dingler was struck by a 95 mph sinker on a deflected foul tip from Jacob Wilson in Wednesday's second inning against the Athletics and was removed before his next plate appearance. Initial X-rays came back negative for a fracture.
Manager AJ Hinch said after Wednesday's 6-1 win that Dingler would undergo further testing Thursday morning. The day-to-day designation is the best possible outcome for a player batting .262 with 19 home runs and 60 RBIs in 84 games this season.
His first career All-Star Game appearance is scheduled for next week in Philadelphia, making Thursday's news a significant relief for both Dingler and the Detroit organization.
Valencia, 26, was signed by Detroit as an international free agent in 2018 out of Valencia, Venezuela. He broke out in 2025, slashing .311/.382/.559 with 24 home runs and 95 RBIs across Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo, and will make his MLB debut when he takes the field.
The Tigers are 42-50 and fourth in the American League Central. With Dingler staying active, the Valencia call-up looks like a precautionary move to keep the roster fully covered through the All-Star break.
