Tigers Reveal Tarik Skubal Decision Amid Trade Rumors

Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch shut down any immediate uncertainty surrounding Tarik Skubal on Tuesday, confirming the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner will make his scheduled start Wednesday despite ongoing trade speculation.

Hinch's decision comes less than a week before the Aug. 3 trade deadline as Skubal continues to draw interest from contenders across baseball. While rumors have linked the left-hander to several clubs, Detroit has given no indication it plans to hold him back from taking his regular turn in the rotation.

According to The Detroit News' Chris McCosky, Hinch confirmed Skubal remains on track to pitch Wednesday.

Trade speculation has intensified as the Tigers have fallen to 50-57 and fourth place in the American League Central following a three-game losing streak. Despite Detroit's position in the standings, moving Skubal would require an enormous return given his status as one of baseball's premier starters and his value beyond this season.

The 29-year-old has once again been among the American League's most effective pitchers in 2026. Through 15 starts, Skubal owns a 7-5 record with a 2.70 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 110 strikeouts across 90 innings. He is coming off another dominant outing against the Kansas City Royals in which he struck out 12 over 7 1/3 innings.

Detroit's decision to keep Skubal on schedule suggests the club is prioritizing winning games while continuing to evaluate trade inquiries. If the Tigers ultimately decide to move their ace, rival clubs will likely need to overwhelm the front office with a package of premium prospects.

For now, Skubal remains the Tigers' Opening Day ace and will take the ball Wednesday as Detroit attempts to snap its recent skid.
