The Houston Astros made their huge offseason splash earlier on Jan. 19 after it looked like they were not going to upgrade their roster and address the obvious need their bullpen had.
By agreeing to a deal with Josh Hader, they easily have one of the best relief staffs in all of baseball.
This signing is really unprecedented under the ownership of Jim Crane as he decided to be aggressive and chase another World Series title.
So, with the Astros making a major addition to their team, others in their division should be expected to do the same during the remaining portion of this offseason.
One trade idea from Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report has their division rival Seattle Mariners landing Gold Glove infielder Ha-Seong Kim from the San Diego Padres.
In his package, he has the Mariners giving up utilityman Dylan Moore and their No. 2 overall prospect, catcher Harry Ford, to land the 28-year-old multidimensional player.
The Padres are reportedly interested in dealing Kim according to Dennis Lin of The Athletic based on fears they won't be able to sign him to a long-term extension and they lose him for nothing.
That just happened with their star pitcher Blake Snell and new Houston acquisition Hader.
Kim would be a good addition to Seattle's infield with the ability to play multiple positions on the defensive end.
He also has improved his performance every single year at the plate since he joined Major League Baseball in 2021.
Kim is coming off a year where he slashed .260/.351/.398 with an OPS+ of 110, 17 home runs, 60 RBI and 38 stolen bases, all career highs.
The Astros likely wouldn't be worried about this trade if it does go through. They won the AL West for the third year in a row last season and are poised to do the same thing once again.
