Mike Trout launched a towering three-run homer and collected three hits, while Jo Adell belted two home runs to help the Los Angeles Angels outlast the Boston Red Sox 7-6 on Monday night at Fenway Park.

The Angels erupted for six runs in the opening inning, highlighted by Trout’s 454-foot blast off the light stanchion in left-center and Adell’s first homer of the night. Zach Neto began the barrage with a leadoff home run, and Los Angeles plated five runs before Red Sox starter Richard Fitts (0-3) could record an out.

Adell later added a solo homer in the sixth to stretch the lead to 7-5 after Boston had pulled within a run with a four-run fifth inning, sparked by Jarren Duran’s leadoff double. Ceddanne Rafaela added a solo shot in the eighth to bring the Red Sox within one, but the Angels held on.

Ryan Zeferjahn (3-1) earned the win with a scoreless seventh, striking out two, and Kenley Jansen secured his 11th save by getting Romy Gonzalez to line out to deep right to end the game.

Boston had a prime opportunity to take the lead in the sixth, loading the bases with one out, but Reid Detmers induced a weak ground ball from Carlos Narváez to escape the jam.

Trout, continuing his strong return from a left knee bone bruise that sidelined him for nearly a month, went 3 for 4 and is now 8 for 14 since being activated Friday.

Key Moment

The Angels set the tone early with Neto’s leadoff homer, followed by a walk, a single, an error, and Trout’s three-run shot. Adell’s homer capped the explosive first inning.

Key Stat

With three hits in the game, Trout surpassed Tim Salmon for second place on the Angels’ all-time hits list with 1,675. Garret Anderson leads with 2,368.

Boston will send right-hander Brayan Bello (2-1) to the mound Tuesday to face Angels lefty Yusei Kikuchi in the second of the three-game series.
